Lara Logan, chief foreign affairs correspondent of CBS News, to keynote opening session of the 2009 AWRT Women’s Media Forum

Gracie and Emmy Award-winning news correspondent Lara Logan was the only journalist from an American network in Baghdad when the U.S. military invaded the city, reporting live for CBS News from Firdos Square as the statue of Saddam fell. Logan broke the story of the abuse of special needs Iraqi orphans, a report that made headlines around the world. Logan’s reports have included a penetrating interview with Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf after the assassination of Bhutto; a rare one-on-one interview with Gen. John Abizaid; and a report on the airport road in Baghdad, the most dangerous piece of asphalt in the world.

AWRT announces the creation of a future focused new media industry conference for women, the AWRT Women’s Media Forum. Scheduled for March 6-7, 2009, the AWRT Women’s Media Forum is part of a continuous effort by AWRT to provide the tools needed for its stakeholders to stay at the leading edge of the industry.

Designed to educate tomorrow’s female leaders in all forms of communications including television, radio, print, online publications and blogging, the AWRT Women’s Media Forum is the annual event where industry professionals unite, renew their commitment to lifelong learning, promote diversity and strengthen the influence of the now vast media community and beyond.

The Forum commences Friday, March 6, 2009, with various breakout sessions tailored to each participant’s career path and level. Topics presented will examine timely and cutting edge issues such as sales and marketing tools and techniques, diversifying revenue streams, time and people management and industry-based advocacy. An industry-specific speed networking session will also be convened.
